The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers is dedicated to the science and engineering of friction, lubrication, and wear, with a goal of perfecting motion in machines and nature. Our mission is to foster innovation, improve the performance of equipment and products, conserve resources, and protect the environment.
These goals benefit the wellbeing of humanity and improve our stewardship of the planet and environment. The Society welcomes and encourages participation by all individuals regardless of age, culture, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, national origin, physical or mental difference, politics, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, or subculture. We strive to cultivate a society built on mentorship, encouragement, tolerance and mutual respect, thereby engendering a welcoming environment for all.
Society members believe in the need for interdisciplinary study, both in terms of disciplines and participants. We will vigorously and proactively reject prejudice and stereotyping wherever it is encountered in our profession. The Society’s purpose is stated concisely as “connect-learn-achieve”, and we believe that embracing diversity and practicing inclusion amongst its members and stakeholders is required to fulfill that value proposition.
