#STLEOutreach

From wind turbines to surgical devices, from electric vehicles to the machines that make modern life possible, tribology and lubrication engineering are everywhere. #STLEOutreach is our campaign to improve the visibility of our field, one conversation, classroom, and community at a time.

OUR MISSION

Rooted in STLE’s strategic plan

Outreach is one of the four pillars of STLE’s 2025-2028 strategic plan. It reflects our belief that securing the future of this profession requires more than serving those already in it. It means actively bringing new voices in and making the case for tribology’s societal value.

“STLE will champion the science and practice of tribology and lubrication engineering by actively engaging the public, increasing visibility and awareness, and creating resources that inform policy and regulatory frameworks, thereby securing the profession’s future relevance and societal impact.”

Over the next three years, STLE is working toward expanding STEM involvement, reaching 50 new universities, growing our global network by 6,000 new contacts, and increasing access to tribology knowledge online.

WHAT OUTREACH LOOKS LIKE

The STLE community in action

Every time an STLE member steps outside our community to share their expertise, the field grows. Here’s what #STLEOutreach looks like in practice:
  • Volunteering at a local section STEM night, putting tribology concepts in students’ hands for the first time
  • Giving a guest lecture at a university where tribology isn’t yet part of the curriculum
  • Connecting with engineers from adjacent fields at a conference and introducing them to STLE resources
  • Sharing technical knowledge publicly in a post, a talk, or an article that opens doors for newcomers

JOIN THE CAMPAIGN

How to participate

When you do outreach work, no matter how small, share it with the community on your favorite social media platforms. Tag your posts with #STLEOutreach and let us know where you’re taking the field next.
  • Share a photo from a STEM event, school visit, or community presentation
  • Post about a conversation that introduced someone new to tribology or lubrication engineering
  • Highlight a student, early-career engineer, or newcomer making their mark in the field
  • Tag @STLE and use #STLEOutreach so we can amplify your story
