Lubricant sales has changed. Selling on price per gallon used to be enough, but maintenance managers and reliability engineers now expect the person across the table to understand their equipment, their failure modes, and their total cost of operation. In this episode, we talk with Steve Knapp, founder of Plan. Grow. Do., about why lubricant salespeople need technical training and what it takes to earn credibility in the field.
Steve describes how they entered the lubricants industry and what their early days in sales taught them. They also explain why they chose to build a company that educates lubricant sales professionals instead of selling product themselves. The conversation covers how the sales role has evolved over the past two decades, what separates top performers from average ones, and how long it realistically takes someone without a technical background to be taken seriously by a reliability engineer. We also look at where deals are lost because of knowledge gaps.
