Beyond Rq (sigma) - Surface Roughness Parameters for Tribolo
Wed. September 15, 2021
12:00 - 1:00 p.m. CT

The RMS surface roughness, Rq (sigma), is typically used to describe component textures to understand friction, wear, lubrication, and sealing mechanisms. Since the seminal work of Boden, Tabor, Archer, Greenwood, Williamson... more advanced measurement and analysis techniques have been developed, which have added to the collection of roughness parameters that may be used to understand tribological interfaces. This presentation will discuss the importance of lateral scale considerations, together with the various families of roughness parameters to relate surface texture to tribological performance. Key concepts in the contact mechanics of non-lubricated systems and lubricated systems will be presented. Sign up for free.
