STLE Tribology Frontiers Virtual Conference FAQs

Please see below the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the 2020 STLE Tribology Frontiers Virtual Conference.

Is the STLE Tribology Frontiers Conference cancelled?
STLE has transformed the 2020 Tribology Frontiers Conference into a virtual online event. This virtual format offers the global tribology research community with the opportunity to explore a full week of keynote presentations, live Q&A with academic and industry leaders during “Meet the Expert” sessions, technical sessions, student posters, exhibits and networking time with colleagues while protecting the safety, health, and well-being of all conference participants.

When will the virtual conference take place?
Tribology Frontiers Week will occur with technical sessions being presented daily from 8:30 am to 4 pm (US Central Daylight Time) beginning Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 13. In addition, the virtual conference platform and all sessions and presentations will be available on-demand after the event ends.

What if I am not available to attend during the virtual conference dates?
The content will be available on-demand for up to one year after the event ends, for all registered participants only. Because all sessions are recorded and archived, you will have the opportunity to re-watch presentations or catch a presentation that conflicted with another session. Please note: The virtual Tribology Frontiers Week schedule is making provisions to accommodate participants from various time zones around the world.

Is it free or do I have to pay to attend the virtual conference?
Tribology Frontiers Week does have a registration fee, but it is less than half the cost of the live event. The all-inclusive registration fee provides access to all sessions and presentations during the event, as well as on-demand access to the content for up to one year.

What do I need to attend the virtual conference?
To attend the virtual conference, you need a good internet connection, your device or computer, and a valid registration. You will receive login details a few weeks in advance to explore the various features of the virtual event platform prior to the conference.

How can I ask questions at the virtual conference?
Discussion groups will be created for each session and you will be able to join a public online chat discussion and ask questions. Speakers/presenters will be asked to join the discussions as well and address the questions posted. Live sessions will have live Q&A sessions!

How do I register for Tribology Frontiers Week and is Early Bird registration available?
Registration for the TFC is now open. Early Bird registration fees are $199 for participants, $25 for students and $99 for STLE life members (before Oct. 15). After Oct. 15, standard fees will apply - $249 (participants); $35 (students) and $149 (STLE life members). For more information and to register, please click here.

If I wish to cancel my registration, will I receive a refund?
There is no general cancellation refund as registered participants have access to content materials for one year after the event ends.

What should I do if I am a speaker/presenter at the event?
STLE’s conference staff will contact you directly regarding your participation in the program, as well as provide additional instructions.

If I am a student, can I still submit a poster presentation?
Yes, for student posters, you may upload the traditional 150-250-word abstract with title, authors and abstract. Deadline for poster abstracts is Sept. 15. To submit a poster abstract, please click here.
