Join us in person or online for an all-new event exploring the latest technical challenges and commercial opportunities that will impact the future of EV technology. See who is attending.

The rapidly changing electric vehicle (EV) technologies brings new opportunities for the tribology and lubrication community. Familiar challenges of transmission, gear and bearing lubrication are coupled with new requirements such as for lubricant thermal and electrical properties, new operating conditions, and changes in parts manufacture.

STLE’s inaugural Tribology and Lubrication for E-Mobility Conference provides three days of educational sessions, networking, and group discussions with industry experts on the latest advancements and outlook for the EV market. Come engage and learn with your peers to get a better understanding on the emerging technical issues related to EV technology. To learn more about the EV Conference, visit the FAQs.

Event Schedule

November 3: Optional one-day EV technology education course (separate registration fee)

November 4-5: EV technical conference

Keynote Presentation
Electric Vehicle Tribology and Rolling Element Bearing Challenges
Presented by Dr. Ryan Evans, The Timken Company
Thursday,  November 4, 2021 | 8:45 am – 9:45 am US Central Time (CT)

The keynote presentation starts off with an introduction to rolling element bearings, followed by a survey of high-level electric vehicle (EV) key trends and technology drivers. Two EV bearing application spaces will be discussed in detail, including wheel end bearings and electric axle bearings. Tribological challenges and recommended solutions in each area will be offered, along with descriptions of key technology development capabilities needed to accelerate innovation such as high-speed bearing testing and advanced lubricant rheology experimental apparatus.

Dr. Ryan Evans holds a bachelor’s of science degree from The University of Akron and master’s of science and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from Case Western Reserve University, respectively. Evans joined the STLE Board of Directors in 2015, and in 2019 he became a member of the Executive Committee, serving one-year terms as treasurer and secretary. Currently, he is serving a one-year term as STLE Vice President and has been recognized with several STLE publishing awards. In addition to STLE, he is a member of ASM International and ASME.
