2020 STLE P.M. Ku Recipient
STLE’s 2019-2020 Executive Committee selected Webster for the Ku Award. Nominations from his peers highlighted his many accomplishments that led to the selection. Among the comments were:
Martin has worked tirelessly over many years for the STLE, often on his own time. As president, not only did Martin travel to numerous local STLE sections, to spread awareness of the mission of STLE, but also internationally, always representing the STLE organization with a sense of professionalism and pride.
Besides his leadership roles, Martin is an accomplished researcher contributing to furthering the science of tribology. He earned a Ph.D. in tribology from Imperial College and is considered one of the world's leading tribology experts. He has numerous tribology patents and publications and co-authored the Lubrication Fundamentals textbook. He has been a highly respected voice on numerous industry committees.
During his time on the STLE Board of Directors and Executive Committee he traveled extensively domestically and internationally to promote the mission of STLE. This involved extensive personal time that is nights and weekends in travel and preparation for visits away from family while performing his duties for his employer.
STLE has benefited from Martin’s hard work and dedication over the years. More and more “young” tribologists have been submitting papers, making presentations at the AM and the Fall Technical meeting due to his enthusiasm.
Most recently, Webster has played a lead role in helping STLE members understand the lubrication and tribology trends and challenges in Electric Vehicles. He presented a webinar on that topic earlier this year, which is the basis for a feature article in the July issue of TLT magazine. To view the Electric Vehicles webinar click here.
