Toronto Section Meeting
Topic: ISO 55000 / Asset Management
Date/Time: Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Presenter: Kevan Slater
Abstract - This presentation will provide a sectional overview of the expected influence that this standard will have on changing a historical bottom up approach to asset management to a top down senior management approach of delivering value to an organization through the utilization of its assets. Kevan will also discuss ISO 18436 'Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic of Machines' which in part 4 specifies the requirements for qualification and assessment of personnel who perform machinery condition monitoring and diagnostics using field lubricants analysis.
ISO 55000 is based on PAS 55 which is a very important tool for physcial plant asset management. It is innovative in that it includes condition monitoring measures and performance measurements matrices that include training and failure analysis. It could be very important tool for lubrication and tribology. This talk should be of great interest to equipment operators, maintenance, sales people, educators, insurance companies and formulators because there could be shift away from 'good enough' products. It could also force management to provide adequate training and to properly address the causes of component failures.
