NON-EDIBLE BALANITES ROXBURGHII PLANT OIL FOR ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY FLUID APPLICATION

Recently, plant oil from non edible seeds likes Pongamia, Jatropha Curcas, Neem, Mahua etc. have been exploited as an Environmental Friendly Fluids. Current research interest is to utilize Balanites Roxburghii (BR) plan oil as an Environmental Friendly Fluids. BR is Semi arid perennial plant with high oil percentage about 40% and seed yield 2.5 tons/acre in third year to that 8.5/acre in 7th year under non-irrigated condition. The present work describe about the oil which has been extracted from BR seed through Soxhlet extraction process (SPE). The % yield of BR oil is monitor by both hot and cold SPE. It is found that high % yield obtained in hot SPE. BR plant oil has been characterized using spectroscopic techniques like FTIR, NMR and  GC. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the chemical composition as well as the physical properties of BR oil and also to exploit it as a non-edible base-stock for Environmental Friendly Fluids like biofuel application.
