Detailed Observation Just Under the Sliding Surface of a Gear Satisfactorily Used for a Long Period

From the perspective of saving natural resources and energy, extending the life of sliding parts is a crucial issue. In search of clues to the means for extending the life, the author carried out detailed analysis with a transmission electron microscope (TEM) on some cross sections of gears in automotive transmissions which had been satisfactorily used for a long period.
