The Effect of Coating Properties on Various Parameters in a Loaded Coated Spherical Elastic Contact

Thin hard coatings are widely used in many mechanical systems with contact between moving parts. These coatings are used in order to improve tribological performance such as wear and friction reduction, corrosion resistance and enhance conductivity to name a few. Thin coatings can be found in different applications such as cutting tools and magnetic storage among others. The goal of this study is to find universal relations between contact parameters of a coated spherical elastic contact for different mechanical and geometrical properties.
