Experimental Analysis of the Transient Performance of Thrust Bearings During Start-Up: Comparison Between Flat-Land, Tapered-Land and Textured Thrust Bearings

During the last decade, researchers have paid a great attention to the textured surfaces in many tribological applications such as piston-rings, thrust and journal bearings, thus emphasizing the interest of using textured surfaces. Recent studies of our group have provided numerous experimental data on the behavior of thrust bearings with textured surface [1, 2, 3]. The objective of this experimental study is to compare the behavior of several types thrust bearing during the start-up period.
