2021 STLE Virtual Annual Meeting & Exhibition FAQs

Please see below the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the 2021 STLE Virtual Annual Meeting & Exhibition. (updated as of February 16, 2021)

Is the STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition cancelled?
STLE has transformed the 2021 STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition into a virtual online event. This virtual format offers the global lubricants and tribology industry with the opportunity to explore four days of keynote presentations, Live Q&A with academic and industry leaders, technical sessions, posters, exhibits and networking time with colleagues while protecting the safety, health, and well-being of all conference participants.

When will the STLE Virtual Annual Meeting & Exhibition take place?
The STLE Virtual Annual Meeting & Exhibition will occur with nearly 300 papers being presented in 10 technical tracks beginning Monday, May 17 through Thursday, May 20. In addition, all sessions and presentations will be recorded and archived on-demand for up to 90 days, after the event concludes, and available to all registered participants.

Are STLE education courses being offered during the virtual event?
The technical education program will move online, but with a schedule change made possible by the virtual format. STLE’s Education Committee is converting five courses dealing with basic and advanced lubrication and metalworking fluids to be presented online, weekly starting in early May and concluding during the first full week of June. No courses will be presented during the Annual Meeting dates. Click here to view the course schedule and pricing fees.

Do I have to attend the entire virtual event?
Virtual events bring the experience of an in-person conference to your personal computer, so just like the in-person STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition, you have the freedom to pick the sessions you attend and plan out your schedule accordingly. Though attending the STLE Virtual Annual Meeting & Exhibition in its entirety—the keynote talks, technical sessions, exhibits, posters, as well as engaging with your colleagues during networking breakout sessions—will help you get the most out of the experience just as you would attending the in-person conference.

What if I am not available to attend the virtual event?
The session and presentation recordings will be available on-demand, for up to 90 days after the event concludes, to all registered participants. Because all sessions are recorded and archived, you will have the opportunity to re-watch presentations or catch a presentation that conflicted with another session. Please note: The STLE Virtual Annual Meeting schedule is listed in US Eastern Daylight Time.

Is it free or do I have to pay to attend the virtual event?
The STLE Annual Meeting does have a registration fee, but it is less than half the cost of the live event. The all-inclusive registration fee provides event access to all sessions and presentations, exhibits, posters, as well as post-event access to the content for up to 90 days. The total cost to attend is much lower because there are no travel, hotel or food expenses. We expect this will expand the meeting audience to individuals who typically cannot attend.

How do I register for the virtual event and is Early Bird registration available?
Individual registration for the Annual Meeting is open now. STLE is offering Early Bird registration to attend the meeting for members/presenters ($475), non-members ($700), students ($125), life members ($175), and a "three seat" registration discount bundle ($1,235 for STLE members only) now through March 31. We encourage participants to register early and save on your meeting registration fees. For more information and to view complete registration and course fees, please click here.

What options do I have if I already paid for and transferred my 2020 Annual Meeting registration to the 2021 Annual Meeting?
Individuals that transferred their registrations from the cancelled 2020 STLE Annual Meeting to the 2021 STLE Annual Meeting will have a credit balance on their account due to the pricing difference for this year’s virtual event. Because of this, there are a variety of options that participants can use to carry over remaining funds such as:

  • Register a friend/colleague to attend the 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting
  • Carry over all or partial funds to 2022 Annual Meeting registration
  • Donate to STLE Student Scholarship Program (tax deductible)
  • Apply credit for future purchases of webinars, books and technical publications in the STLE Online Store
  • Use funds towards credit on STLE membership/renewal fees
  • Refund credit balance to original credit card of purchase

For more information on the above options or general registration questions, please contact Nadine Sanchez-Colon at (847) 825-5536 or email nadine@stle.org.

What do I need to attend the virtual event?
To attend the STLE Virtual Annual Meeting, you need a good internet connection, your device or computer, and a valid registration. You will receive login details a few weeks in advance to explore the various features of the virtual event platform prior to the conference, including setting up your attendee profile and planning your itinerary schedule.

How can I ask questions at the virtual event?
Discussion groups will be created for each session and you will be able to join a public online chat discussion and ask questions. Speakers/presenters will be asked to join the discussions as well and address the questions posted. Live sessions will have live Q&A sessions!
