Lubricating oils are formulated with base fluids and additives, both of which contribute significantly to the properties and performance.  This presentation includes some fundamentals of lubrication, the functions of the various ingredients commonly used in industrial lubricants, the properties and performance of different base fluids and the primary additive chemistries employed to enhance performance.  Typical test results demonstrate the benefits of effective formulating.
