Neutralizers and pH adjusters/buffers are often not thought to be key contributors to metalworking fluid (MWF) performance. However, proper selection of these components can have a significant impact on fluid performance and longevity. This presentation will review terminology, desirable characteristics and primary/secondary effects of these critical components.
Patrick Brutto is the Applications R&D Leaders for the Personal, Home and Industrial Care division of The Dow Chemical Company. In this role, Pat is responsible for leading the development of additive technology for industrial applications including metalworking fluids. He holds an M. Sc. Degree in chemistry from DePaul University, ad well as the CMFS certification from STLE. Pat is currently chair of the STLE Chicago Section.
