Rust preventive coatings have long been used to protect steel and other metals from corrosion. These waxy, oily barrier films are used during the shipping and storage of metal parts, and provide temporary corrosion protection that is easy to apply and easy to remove. This presentation is intended for engineers and chemists interested in formulating rust preventive fluids and learning about their performance. This presentation will review the fundamentals of rust preventives, including a market summary, the chemistry of rust preventive packages, and the testing used to evaluate performance.
