Abstract
Automatic Transmission Fluids (ATFs) provide critical functions in today's powertrain delivering fuel economy, durability and seamless shift quality. Key functions include torque transfer, cooling, hydraulic power, and lubrication to internal components. Impact of transmission architecture on ATF functions will be discussed along with components (base oils/ additive packages) of the fluid.
