Title: Milled Surfaces – Design to Seal
Presenter: Michael Mater, Coherix
Biography: Michael Mater is the Chief Engineer for ShaPix® at Coherix Inc. Coherix is focused on commercializing its holographic interferometry technology into metrology tools and machine vision products for industry. Michael has more than 18 years of experience in the innovative technology arena taking technologies from an idea through product development and commercialization to lead the development of ShaPix sensors and solutions. Michael is responsible for the design, component selection, integration, software development, and surface analysis for the commercialization of the advanced holographic interferometry technology at Coherix.
Abstract: In order for manufacturers to meet the sealing demands for the engine and transmission markets, new methods are needed to characterize and measure surfaces. Powertrain components are now operating at higher pressures, using new materials, and are produced with enhanced manufacturing methods - each of which impacts the function or the seal of a joint between surfaces. This presentation is about separating surface form and waviness into three process contributors which can be isolated with high-definition metrology (fixtures, part stiffness, and cutter paths).
