The Reliability Centered Lubrication concept is an essential part of reliability management. Lubricant condition and contamination control, for both oil and grease components, is perhaps the one area that persistently evades management effort, but upon which hinges an improved component lifecycle.
In order to manage contamination challenges, it is essential to a) set the correct cleanliness objective, b) create an accurate method, which allows you to quickly and consistently measure progress. Sample collection and oil analysis is the control loop that tells the reliability engineer if the program is working according to plan.
Lastly, it is vital to have the right tools for lubrication program information management. There is too much at stake to be content with a pencil, note pad and post-it notes handed back and forth. The system should support consumption tracking, task completion and re-schedule, and outage work requirements.
Mike is the Principal Consultant at Advanced Machine Reliability Resources Inc. Mike formed AMRRI to promote a practical and economical approach to reliability centered Machinery Lubrication. Mike has 26 years of experience dealing with both practical and theoretical Tribology, and has been instrumental in helping many large companies improve plant performance through direction and focus for their machine lubrication practices.
