Diesel engine technology has advanced significantly in the last few years. Diesel engines have to meet stringent emissions regulations as well as customer’s expectation regarding efficiency, durability and reliability. Parallel to engine advancements, engine oils had to evolve to an ever increasing supporting role to enable engines to achieve their goals. This talk will focus on the evolution of engine oil characteristics, the complex process of oil development, as well as the current status of oil categories for heavy duty engines.
