Replacing Solvent-Based Rust Preventives to meet VOC Challenges

Replacing Solvent-Based Rust Preventives to meet VOC Challenges
Presenter: Jennifer Ineman with the Lubrizol Corporation
Abstract:
With the latest volatile organic compound (VOC) regulations in place, formulators are faced with a myriad of technology choices. They must balance different benefits, features and formulating challenges to meet their products’ performance for each specific application. Each application requires an in-depth review of pre- and post- process expectations before selecting the optimal rust preventive. No single technology will be the best or only replacement of solvent-based rust preventives. This presentation will discuss key points of the new VOC regulation that has come to fruition in California and how it is expected to morph into a more global requirement. Additive development challenges will be discussed as well as the importance of having a range of technology choices that not only meet the new VOC regulations but also the performance demands of the industry.
