We will address five metals commonly being machined in industry today, their properties, and the potential corrosion related problems that are encountered with each one. We will then cover corrosion testing methods that may be used when evaluating the metalworking fluids for those applications.
Jerry Byers is the Manager of Cimcool® Product Research & Development at Cimcool Fluid Technologies LLC in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Ball State University, and a Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. He is a Certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist (CMFS?).
Jerry is Past-President of STLE (2012-2013), and has been active in the organization for more than 35 years. He has served on the STLE Board of Directors, as well as an associate editor for Tribology Transactions, and as a member of the STLE Metalworking Fluids Education and Training Subcommittee. He held several offices in the Cincinnati section of STLE, including twice as Chairman.
Jerry holds a patent for a heavy duty chlorine-free metalworking fluid, has authored several journal articles, and was contributing editor for two books: Metalworking Fluids (Marcel Dekker, 1994), and Metalworking Fluids, Second Edition (Taylor & Francis, 2006). The latter book has been translated into a Chinese edition.
