Abstract
Air compressors are used in most industries including production and storage, steel, petroleum, chemical, construction, mining, food, gas, energy conversion and transportation. Their shutdown means loss in production. Lubricants in these applications lubricate moving parts such as bearings and gears, provide a liquid seal, and remove heat. This can be a difficult task for lubricant which operates in a hostile environment made up from oxygen in the air, moisture and environmental contaminants which must often operate under high pressures and temperatures. In some cases Original Equipment Manufacturer design changes to improve compressor cost and efficiency have resulted in smaller oil capacities and compressors that run at higher speeds and loads resulting in higher operating temperatures that can further stress the lubricant being used. The lubricants properties also affect the efficiency, safety and environmental impact of operating compressors.
In this webinar you will learn about basic compressor fundamentals, the different types of lubricants that can be used, some of the important properties compressor lubricants should possess and their proper selection. The focus will be primarily on positive displacement compressors, formulating with synthetic lubricants, and strategies for efficiency improvement and extending lubricant service life.
