Jerry Byers, STLE President, will deliver his vision of the STLE at the National Level both today and looking forward into the future. Byers will then talk about five metals commonly used in industry, the properties of each, and corrosion testing methods that may be used when evaluating the application of metalworking fluids for each.
Jerry Byers is the Manager of Cimcool® Product Research & Development at Cimcool Fluid Technologies LLC in Cincinnati, Ohio. He oversees the laboratory development of straight oil and water-based products for use in the processing of metals, glass, plastics and ceramics, as well as industrial cleaners. He initially joined the company in the area of customer laboratory services, and then became supervisor of the stamping and drawing product development group, before attaining his current position.
Byers received his Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Ball State University, and a Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. He is a Certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist (CMFS).
Byers is currently President of STLE for 2012-2013, and has been active in the organization for 35 years. He has served on the Board of Directors for that organization, as an associate editor for Tribology Transactions, and as a member of the STLE Metalworking Fluids Education and Training Subcommittee.
Byers has authored several journal articles, and was contributing editor for two books: Metalworking Fluids (Marcel Dekker, 1994), and Metalworking Fluids, Second Edition (Taylor & Francis, 2006). He also holds a patent for a chlorine-free metalworking lubricant package.
