Central Illinois Section Meeting - February 6, 2013
Title: Polymerized Vegetable Oils
Speaker: Dr. Selim Erhan
The larger molecules such as polymeric vegetable oils and esters are multifunctional additives in metalworking fluids and impart good low foaming properties and coupling effects. But their most notable contributions are in lubricity. Their performance is especially important as there is an effort to replace chlorinated paraffin's in performance and cost. This presentation will focus on the tribological performance of polymeric vegetable oils, and various esters and compare their performance to the performance of chlorinated paraffin's using instruments such as the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig, Hille Press, Reichert, 4-Ball Wear and Microtap.
