Bally's Hotel & Casino

STLE’s 2010 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas Attracts 1,200 Participants!
The strong turnout for the 65th STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition is indicative of the important work our members are doing to help address global issues such as energy conservation and environmental protection. Over the decades, tribology has been the technology that's enabled historic technical advances—from putting a man on the moon to engineering the microchips in our computers. The work will continue in the years ahead, and STLE will be the place where people gather to present their research, learn new concepts and network with an international peer group.
2010 Meeting Highlights
- Peter Drechsler of The Timken Co. was inaugurated as STLE president.
- The rest of STLE’s Executive Committee is Vice President Mike Dugger from Sandia National Laboratories, Secretary Jerry Byers from Cimcool Industrial Products, Treasurer Rob Heverly with R.T. Vanderbilt Co. and Immediate Past President Dave Scheetz with ExxonMobil.
- The 1,200 attendees represents a 30% increase from STLE’s 2009 Annual Meeting.
- The 370 technical presentations were a 9% increase from 2009.
Energy conservation and protecting the environment were prevailing themes throughout the meeting. Highlights included a track on wind turbines, a special session titled “Energy Outlook—A View to 2030” by ExxonMobil and a keynote address on eco-boost engines presented by Ford’s Dan Kapp.
- The trade show was sold out with 62 exhibitors and 80 booths. Exhibitors included the major lubricant and additive companies, service suppliers, consultants and technical-information providers.
