CLS Recertification Policy

RECERTIFICATION POLICY
Pay the recertification fee plus meet any 4 of the following requirements during the 3-year recertification period or retake the examination. (The cost of the retake examination for recertification purposes is included in the recertification fee.) 

Requirement

  1. Employer supplies a letter vouching for continued employment in the lubrication field business.
  2. Two other C.L.S.® supply a letter vouching for continued employment in the lubrication business.
  3. Provide proof of receiving 4.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from courses relevant to tribology/ lubrication.
  4. Provide proof of attending six (6) STLE section meetings.
  5. Provide proof of attending one (1) STLE Section education seminar.
  6. Provide proof of attending one (1) educational seminar relevant to lubrication/ tribology such as at the annual meeting of one of the following: STLE, SAE, NLGI, AIST, or SMRP; proof of attending an educational seminar which is part of a third party training seminar such as a corporate training program or education provider seminar; or, proof of reading (6) relevant technical articles published in national or international technical publications.
  7. Provide proof of attending one (1) annual meeting conference with programs relevant to tribology/lubrication such as from one of the following: STLE, SAE, NLGI, AIST, or SMRP.
  8. Give one (1) presentation/course at a conference or seminar relevant to lubrication/ tribology.
  9. Publish one (1) article or paper in publications relevant to tribology/lubrication.
  10. Author one (1) book or a significant chapter of a book relevant to tribology/lubrication.
  11. Provide proof of active participation in technical committees or councils with programs relevant to tribology/lubrication.

Alternate option: In lieu of any four of the above the C.L.S. may elect to rewrite the Certified Lubrication Specialist exam.
