THERMO ELASTIC DISTORTION AND ITS CONTROL IN THIN FILM HYDRODYNAMIC LUBRICATION THRUST BEARINGS

The present investigation describes the effect on distortion of tribo surface(s) in thin film hydrodynamic lubrication thrust bearings subjected to high temperature and high pressure, because of high speed and high axial load.Basic hydrodynamic lubrication equation(s) and bending equation espacially with appropriate boundary conditions are solved simultaneously using numerical technique. In this work, stationary surface is getting cooled down using a conjugate heat transfer between solid (hot body) to fluid (cold water), it is observed that there is significant reduction in operating temperature and hence it prevents thermoelastic distorton of bearing components to great extent, thus the efficiency of the overall system increases.
