INFLUENCE OF SEMI CONE ANGLE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF A CONICAL HYDRODYNAMIC JOURNAL BEARING

The conical hydrodynamic fluid film journal bearing offers excellent performance characteristics for combined axial and radial load applications. These bearings has been reported for use in precision machine tool applications and in medical science for axial blood pump. Conical hydrodynamic fluid film journal bearing is simple in construction but the performance of these bearings depends on geometrical and operating parameters. In the present research work, Finite Element analysis (FEA) based analytical method and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis have been studied for the influence of semi cone angle on the performance characteristics of conical hydrodynamic fluid film journal bearing for Newtonian fluid.
