STLE Hosts Local Area High School for STEM Camp

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) will host a Chicago Local area high school its Annual Tribology STEM Camp, on Monday, May 4th during STLE's 75th Annual Meeting & Exhibition at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

Students will have the opportunity to see demonstrations and participate in hands-on experiments, led by STLE members, to learn about areas of research within the fields of tribology and lubrication engineering. The goal of the camp is to engage high school students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to careers in tribology and lubrication engineering.

Tribology encompasses aspects of physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, metallurgy, materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and applied mechanics. About a third of all energy is lost through friction. Demonstrations and hands-on experiments, led by engineers and researchers who are actively engaged in how tribology can conserve energy and protect the environment, will help students understand the fundamentals of friction, wear and lubrication.

Each year STLE runs the STEM Camp to educate students with an interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in the hopes of attracting tomorrow's tribology and lubricants professionals to the industry.
